Concealed Pistol License
Clerk Byrum’s Office handles the processing of new, emergency, and renewal applications for a Concealed Pistol License.

Concealed Pistol Licenses are governed by MCL 28.421 et. seq. For information on Concealed Pistol License in Michigan statute, click here
New Concealed Pistol License Applications
Start your application here: Concealed Pistol License Application. Please do not sign the application until Clerk's Office staff administer an oath to you.

You are welcome to submit your application at the Main Mason Office or Lansing Branch Office. Your application must be submitted in-person because the application requires that you sign under oath.

When submitting your application for a new CPL you must provide your:
  • Original course completion certificate, and
  • Michigan Driver's License or Identification Card
Fingerprinting & Background Check
After submitting your application to the Clerk's Office, you will be provided a receipt that you will take, along with your government-issued identification, to the Sheriff's Office to be fingerprinted.

The Sheriff's Office is located at 630 North Cedar Street, Mason, MI, they fingerprint from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday (except holidays), and the fee is $15.00.

Fingerprinting triggers a Michigan State Police background check to determine your eligibility to be issued a CPL. You have 45 days to be fingerprinted or your application is automatically withdrawn.
Renewal Concealed Pistol License Applications

You can renew your CPL six months before it expires up to one year after its expiration.

Start your renewal application here: Concealed Pistol License Application. Please do not sign the application until Clerk's Office staff administer an oath to you.

You are welcome to submit your application at the Main Mason Office or Lansing Branch Office. When submitting your application for a CPL renewal you must also provide your:

  • Current CPL, and
  • Michigan Driver's License or Identification Card, and
  • Correct payment

Michigan residents with an existing concealed pistol license (CPL) can now also renew their license online here.

Online renewal requires a personal identification number (PIN). If a CPL holder’s renewal notification letter does not contain a PIN, he/she may request a new renewal notification letter directly from the county clerk that issued the CPL.

In addition to online renewal, CPL holders may also renew their license by mail with a completed application and payment. Clerk Byrum’s mailing address can be found here.

Next Steps After CPL Application Approval (New & Renewal)
